The Colorado Symphony Association was formed in 1990, as the successor of the Denver Symphony Orchestra (DSO). The DSO was formed out of the Denver Civic Orchestra, which was organized in 1922. The CSA operates as a partnership between the musicians, staff and Board of trustees. The foundation of this partnership is the belief that by sharing responsibilities, authority and commitment to the mission of the orchestra and by the players' willingness to accept fiscal responsibility in the exchange for artistic control and self-governance, ultimate success will be achieved. Today, musicians still comprise one-fifth of the Board of Trustees and serve on all major governance and artistic committees.
The Colorado Symphony Orchestra's mission is "A Great Orchestra, Playing Great Music for Great Audiences in a Great City." We fulfill our mission by embracing a tradition of musical experience and presenting a wide variety of symphonic performances from classical repertoire to innovative new forms. We are committed to providing opportunities for our audiences of all ages to enhance their musical understanding with educational programs designed to enrich their experiences.
