Kurt Vonnegut Breakfast of Champions Beer Dinner
Are you a Kurt Vonnegut fan who loves beer? Want to taste the Vonnegut family's own heirloom beer? Then make your reservation for the Breakfast of Champions Beer Dinner: April 11 at 6:30 PM, Wynkoop Brewing Co. presents a special event celebrating the late great author Kurt Vonnegut, Tender Belly Pork, Novo coffees and Wynkoop beer. The beer will be made from a recipe handed down by Vonnegut's brewer grandfather and given by the author himself to Wynkoop founder John Hickenlooper. The beer was last brewed in 2007.
Each course of the one-night-only menu features a Tender Belly pork dish paired with a Wynkoop beer. The beer list includes Kurt's Mile High Malt, a coffee-infused lager first brewed by Wynkoop in 1997 for the beer's debut (as part of our famed Denver Public Library series) and again in 2007 in tribute to Kurt's passing. "I stayed very faithful to the original recipe," says head brewer Andy Brown, "except for the cold infusion, which is a new-school brewing technique."
Breakfast of Champions dinner attendees get the first taste of the beer before it hits our house taps the next day on April 12. During dinner there will a reading or two from a Vonnegut tome and a raffle for a pair of Kurt Vonnegut-themed gift baskets from our neighbors at the Tattered Cover.
The event takes place on the anniversary of Vonnegut's death and Tattered Cover Book Store is providing a pair of Vonnegut-themed gift baskets that'll be given away in a post-dinner raffle.
