This event has been cancelled. Historic LoDo: Colorado author, photographer, entrepreneur, progressive educator, and publisher George Stranahan will discuss and sign his new book A Predicament of Innocents: Might the Schools Help? ($19.95 People’s Press). This collection of essays and photographs explores the art of teaching, the minds of children, and how the educational infrastructure stifles the growth of both. The portraits of schoolchildren taken over six decades invite pause and reflection, and the text examines educational practices, debates, and theory, and advocates learning with children rather than teaching to them. This is a passionate book about the intersection of education and the love of learning. Can’t make it to the signing? Request an autographed copy here: books@tatteredcover.com

Colfax Avenue: In 2004, Ken Jennings successfully auditioned for a spot on Jeopardy!, and went on an unprecedented seventy-four game victory streak worth $2.52 million. Jennings’s book Brainiac, about his Jeopardy! adventures, was a critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller, as was his follow-up, Maphead. Jennings will discuss and sign his entertaining new book Because I Said So!: The Truth Behind the Myths, Tales, and Warnings Every Generation Passes Down to Its Kids (Scribner). “A fun, lighthearted compendium of conventional wisdom, mostly parental, which debunks plenty of old wives’ tales and urban myths while offering a few surprising truths.… ‘Occasionally Mom knew what she was talking about,’ as this clever book confirms, but often she did not.” —Kirkus Reviews
