Highlands Ranch: December 15th is the anniversary of the discovery of the South Pole by Roald Amundsen, "the last of the Vikings." The race to the South Pole was one of the greatest international races prior to the race to the moon and was full of tragedy and triumph. It featured tiny, newly independent Norway against the British Empire, upon which the "sun never set." It was David vs. Goliath. Join us as we tell the gripping story of those who perished and prevailed in this epic quest. PDF of the Active Minds Lecture Series.
Start: 7:30 pm
Historic LoDo: Award-winning journalist and author Steffan Tubbs is co-host of Colorado’s Morning News on 850 KOA, and he hosts the community affairs program Studio 12 on Colorado Public Television. Tubbs will discuss and sign his new book Life, Liberty & Resilience: A Man's War on Three Fronts (Mountain Time Media), the inspiring biography of Joseph LaNier, an incredible American who dealt with racism, segregation and hate—even while in a United States Navy uniform. Joe's story is representative of what tens of thousands of African-Americans of his generation dealt with for decades. A grandson of a slave and a pioneer in his own right, Joseph LaNier's story is one of resilience, of hope, and of love regardless of injustice.
