Historic LoDo: Damien Echols was convicted of murder and sentenced to death in 1993, only to be found innocent upon appeal and released in 2011. Westword journalist Alan Prendergast will join Damien in conversation in honor of his beautifully written memoir Life After Death (Blue Rider Press). “Damien Echols spent eighteen years on death row for murders he did not commit. Somehow, in the depths of his unspeakable nightmare, he found the courage and strength not only to survive, but to grow, to create, to forgive, and to understand. Life After Death is a brilliant, haunting, painful, and uplifting narrative of a hopeless childhood, a wrongful conviction, a brutal incarceration, and the beginning of a new life.” —John GrishamCan’t make it to the signing? Colfax Avenue: Michael Cosgrove will discuss and sign his fascinating memoir Imperfect Passage: A Sailing Story of Vision, Terror, and Redemption (Skyhourse Publishing), the story of one man’s struggle to hold back the hands of time by embarking on a seemingly foolhardy sailing trip around the world. Battling Mother Nature and his own inner demons, Cosgrove’s story proves that with enough will, one can, in his or her own way, conquer the unconquerable. Michael Cosgrove will be donating a portion of his profits to the Navy Special Warfare Family Foundation.
