Contests

The Tattered Cover sponsors contests for Colorado children and young adults each year.

The Banned Books Week Essay Contest, co-sponsored by the Colorado Freedom of Expression Foundation, honors of the annual observance of Banned Books Week at the end of September. All Colorado teens, grades 7 - 12, are invited to submit an original essay on the First Amendment’s relationship to books. This year we are launching the essay contest during Banned Books Week, September 26 through October 3, 2009. The 2009 entry form will be posted September 26 and entries must be postmarked by January 22, 2010.

The Tattered Cover Annual Scary Story Contest happens every year (for at least the last 25 years) at the end of October. Young writers from kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to write an original mystery, suspenseful thriller, or humorous Halloween tale of a nonviolent nature.

The Tattered Cover Children's Bookmark Contest asks children to create a colorful bookmark on the theme of reading. The winning entries are printed and distributed to customers during the course of the year.
